Do You Qualify for Free NHS Dental Treatment?
A surprising number of people qualify for completely free NHS dental care in Scotland without realising it. Here’s exactly who’s covered.
OVERVIEW
Free NHS dental treatment in Scotland is available to several groups, including everyone under 26, those named on a valid maternity exemption certificate, anyone who has had a baby in the previous 12 months, holders of a valid HC2 certificate, and those receiving Universal Credit, Income-related Employment Support Allowance, or qualifying Tax Credits. Citrus Dental Care, 1 Meadow Place, Edinburgh EH9 1JZ, is an NHS Lothian practice accepting new patients from these groups.
You're Entitled to Free NHS Dental Treatment If:
- You’re under 26 years of age
- You’re named on a valid maternity exemption certificate
- You’ve had a baby, or experienced a stillbirth, in the previous 12 months
- You hold a valid HC2 certificate
- You hold a valid HC3 certificate (you may also qualify for partial help)
- You or your partner receive Universal Credit
- You or your partner receive Income-related Employment Support Allowance
- You or your partner receive Tax Credits and meet the qualifying conditions
If none of these apply, you’ll pay 80% of treatment costs, capped at £384 per course.
