About Us
We’re on Meadow Place, right on the edge of The Meadows. NHS and private care, delivered by a team that genuinely takes the time to listen, in a practice that’s been part of the Southside for years.
About us
Built on Meadow Place, Built on Listening
Citrus Dental Care was founded by Dr Fotis Bousis, who trained in Athens before completing a three-year Masters degree in implant dentistry in London. He set up the practice with a fairly simple idea: that dentistry doesn’t need to be intimidating, rushed, or pushy to be excellent. It just needs people who actually pay attention.
That idea has shaped everything about how Citrus runs since. Dr Bousis still treats patients himself, still sits on the NHS Lothian Local Dental Committee and Area Dental Executive, and still has a particular soft spot for nervous and phobic patients, the people who’ve avoided the dentist for years and finally decide to give it another go. He’s especially known for dental implants and All-on-4 full-mouth restorations, having placed hundreds over the years, but ask anyone who’s sat in his chair and they’ll usually mention how calm he made them feel before they mention anything clinical at all.
Today, Citrus is a full NHS and private practice with seven GDC-registered clinicians, but the same idea Dr Bousis started with still runs through it. Listen first. Explain properly. Never rush someone into treatment they don’t need. It’s a simple standard, but it’s surprisingly rare, and it’s the reason so many of our patients have been with us for years.

A Team You Can Actually Trust With Your Smile
Between them, our seven clinicians bring decades of combined experience and training from across Europe, covering everything from implant dentistry and Invisalign to facial aesthetics and gentle care for nervous patients. Every single one is fully registered with the General Dental Council, which isn’t optional, it’s the law, but it’s also something we take seriously rather than treating as a box to tick.
What patients tend to mention most, though, isn’t the qualifications. It’s being remembered by name. It’s a dentist who explains what’s happening before they do it, not after. It’s a receptionist who takes the time to talk you through your appointment rather than rushing you out the door. As one patient put it after her first visit: “It was the reception that made me feel very comfortable. She explained in detail what happened at my appointment and I walked out feeling excited to go back.”
That’s the kind of practice we’ve built, qualified, careful, and genuinely glad to see you.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, both NHS and private. We're one of the few Edinburgh practices still accepting new NHS patients right now, and we're genuinely proud of that. If you'd like to register, give us a call on 0131 285 3308 or fill in the form on our registration page.
Not at all. Many of our patients have both. You can be registered with us as an NHS patient for your routine check-ups and preventative care, and choose to have certain treatments privately when you want something that isn't available on the NHS, like Invisalign, teeth whitening, or composite bonding. We'll always be clear about which is which and what each will cost.
Then you're in good company. A significant number of the patients who come through our door haven't been in years, for all kinds of reasons. We're not going to make you feel bad about the gap. We'll take a look at where things stand, have an honest conversation about what, if anything, needs doing, and go from there at a pace that works for you.
Genuinely, yes. It's something we take seriously rather than just saying. Several of our most-reviewed clinicians are specifically praised for their calm, gentle approach with anxious patients. If you're nervous, tell us when you call. We'll make sure the right person looks after you and that your appointment is long enough to go at a comfortable pace.
Every clinician at Citrus is registered with the General Dental Council, which is the independent regulatory body for dental professionals in the UK. GDC registration is a legal requirement, not a nice-to-have, and every number can be verified on the GDC's public register at gdc-uk.org. You'll find all of our GDC numbers on the Meet the Team page.
Yes, all ages. We're a Childsmile practice, which means we're set up to deliver Scotland's national preventative dental programme for children, including fluoride applications and fissure sealants. All NHS dental treatment is completely free for anyone under 26.
We're at 1 Meadow Place, Edinburgh EH9 1JZ, two minutes from The Meadows. Easy to reach from Newington, Bruntsfield, Tollcross, Marchmont, and Morningside.
